WTH Do I have a gremlin ?!?

OK so my wipers were not working...had to pull fuse to get them to stop. I replaced multi function switch and nothing. Then replaced wiper motor. I reconnected the battery and HOLY COW they were staying off. Then when i turned them on they kept going again. The only remedy was to pull the fuse or disconnect battery. When battery was disconnected and reconnected they stayed off, until I turned the switch, then they just kept going again. When fuse was pulled and then put back in they would keep going also.
Sorry for the run on, but I am at a loss.

I have a 2000 excursion limited v10.

Have you had your windshield replaced recently? Even if not look under the dash on top of the fuse box is the GEM if that gets wet all sorts of weird things can happen.

Make sure you have the wipers installed during your testing. You need enough drag on the motor for it to stop. This is how it works;

The wiper motor is supplied with a wire that is hot as long as the key is on. There is a internal cam switch inside the motor. If the switch inside the motor is on, then the wipers will run when the key is turned on(even if the wiper switch on the lever is off) till the cam inside the motor opens the internal motor switch. This cam switch puts the motor in the "park" position. When you turn the switch on that is located on the turn lever, the power from that switch "carries it through" the cam switch and keeps it running. Soon as you turn the lever switch off, the motor will continue to run till the cam switch inside opens.

The problem is with no wipers and no drag on the system, the cam switch will turn the motor off, but it will coast with no drag, and coast right through the dead spot created by the cam switch, and then activate itself again and keep running. If it's doing this you might see it hesitate while it's coasting.
