I have a 2003 6.0 and When I turn the AC on the belt is squealing like a banshee. I thought perhaps I had a worn out belt because I looked at it and the smooth side was showing wear, so I replaced the belt. I took it for a test drive that night and not a single noise. Although my wife then took it to her parents later in the evening and did not inform me that it was squealing again. I get a slight chirp on startup but then no noise until I turn the ac on. I had a camping trip this weekend and used belt dressing made for serpentine belts on it and that helped to avoid squealing, but I had to wait for the engine to be warmed up to turn on AC. When I replaced the belt, the tensioner did not move like I expected it to. The whole thing turned and stayed without using the kickstand… What could it be? Is my AC pump the problem or would you guys think that it is the tensioner? Thanks in advance everyone!

A bad tensioner is pretty common. I would start by replacing that.

You need a new belt tensioner

You just described exactly what I experienced on my 2003 F250.
Your tensioner should have sprung back tightly against the belt, as it is seized the belt slips and squeals under load.
The new belt tensioner is about $90 and only takes 2 bolts to replace and you will be good to go.

Thanks for the info guys, How is the tensioner built? Is there a possibility that if it is just seized up that if I were to remove it and work with it i could get it to release? Or is it just a done deal the part is broke and there is no fixing it? I'm not trying to be cheap or anything, but I don't mind trying something first you know. Besides there is a little something to the saying my Uncle has.... If you watch the dimes the dollars will take care of themselves...
