Here's my 54 when I bought it. It had a mid 80's 8.8" rear diff in it ( same width as your 9" ) .

It does seem a bit too wide for the wheels and tires I borrowed off the 81 F-100. Don't think I want a four wheel drive but I sense a happiness in her for some reason. I think this 9 in will work with just a bit more backspacing.

BTW-my 4 year old son keeps asking to go out to the shop to push her back and forth. Its the little things that make it fun.
