Today I tore apart the other side of my axle,to remove kingpin, which came out easier than the drivers side. This axle is not under my truck yet.Removing the long axle side I noticed that I didnot have the same set up as the short axle side. Two large nuts and a flat spacer washer was all that was holding the rotor and hub on axle.Should each side be a carbon copy of the other? Thanks in advance dave
ok.After reading pirate website again. What I found was that older versions used the bend tabs in the front as well for locking. That is what I found on my short axle side.Now.Should I replace short axle side with the same set up as long axle side or vs/versa?thanks again
I can't recall if mine had both the washers with locking tabs that bend. I always use my 110v dewalt impact with d60 socket and just give both the nuts a good wrap with the impact. I've had no issues with them backing off. I figure the impact does about 80 ft lbs.
Hub socket says right on it Do Not Use Impact
but it works good and especially for removal just make sure you got it on square.
Guess Ill be sticking with the set up it is.One side has bend locking tabs and two castle nuts, the other has bigger nut, flat washer with tab, bigger nut.I have to get a socket for the larger nut,its totally diffrent than the castle nuts on other side.Ford?
same guy, whats the odds of that happening? just joking sour joke.I was wondering if anybody tried out the D60 X locking assembly sold at Jeffs BG?thanks to all
Yea I bought the JBG kit. Mine originally had the kind you bend the tab over....they suck. The later style that JBG sells with the bunch of lite holes is much nicer. If you really want to get fancy summit sells a set for like $60 per side that allows you to lock the nut ant any given position rather than having to pick the nearest hole. The hole and pin type in my opium are way nicer than the bend the tab type. JBG was cheap to I thought maybe $20 a side?
