Question dana 60?

The bottom leaf plate (on the front axel)on the passeneger side extemend out further than the right side and has a hole stamped/drilled through it. Does anyone know what this is for? Is it for mounting a steering dampener and on that note, who makes a good steering dampener. Am I right in thinking one would be easy to install with basic tools?

Thanx for the help.

I'm not to sure, but I don't think it is used for a steering dampener. A steering dampener usually mounts to your axle and I think it would be realitivly easy to instal.

I put one end of my steering damper there, the other end on the drag link. Fits real nice, so I'm thinking that's the purpose.

I've got a 97 F-350 PSD with a Dana 60 front axle. The damper kit instructions said to drill the under-engine cross-frame member to mount one of the brackets, but that wouldn't give enough range of motion on the stabilizer. Otherwise, I was looking at rigging up an axle mount with some U-bolts or other hardware. My only regret is that I wish I would have seen the spring plate mounting point BEFORE drilling the cross-frame and mounting the bracket!

Only caution is that I had to rotate the drag link mounting bracket down some so that the damper cleared the cross-frame member with the springs compressed. If you don't have a diesel, your cross-frame might not be as deep, and you might be able to keep the damper directly behind the drag link. Stick your hand between the damper and the cross-frame and you'll see what I mean.

Incidentally, my kit is a Rancho from JC Whitney. I'm not going to go off-road (just sorry excuses for roads) and have no experience or partiality to specific brands.
