ive been using the forum now for like every weekend now
and have done egr delete, oil cooler, and a bunch of
easy fixes.
Its now head gasket time! i really want to do this but not
sure if its do-able for a weekend warrior like myself?
ive almost no choice due to dropping so much $ into my
truck and work slowing... anyone else tackle this feat
with minimal mechanical experience???
had a feelin that was comin!
well, i just cant afford a mechanic
so im gonna try to get everything
together by next weekend.
i have a question for ya tho!
my poor poor lil truck....
so just recently, after pulling a big load,
my coolant reservoir looks like a tub of grease!
which is why the truck is parked now.
so im debating to try to flush it now, before
i tear it apart, or is it leaking too much oil in the
water anyway so just flush it after????
im worried cuz this stuff is everywhere!
man if you have grey goop in the degas bottle why are you pulling the heads and doing so much unneccary repair?
I would suggest fixing this issue first and seeing what needs to happen from there.
what it sounds like oyu have is a failed oil cooler that has sent oil in to the cooling system.
you wount ever get it out till you repalce the failed oil cooler, then flush the cooling system with simple green. after that flush is complete replace the degas bottle, cap all hoses, t-stat and water pump.

His first post says he's already replaced the oil cooler but not how long ago.
I'm like cheezit though......sounds like it's a failed oil cooler not head gaskets. Headgaskets aren't going to put oil in the coolant.
yep.
i just did the oil cooler, egr delete,
water pump, fuel pump, heater core,
thermostat, etc 5k miles ago!!!
i will have to update my profile, sorry.
the truck was still loosing water/coolant and
puking after all this, just not quite as much.
then the big load, and now it definitely seems
theres oil in the water. im not sure how...
btw, the truck runs fine. it started loosing power the
other day when pulling a small load, then recovered
and has been parked since.
thanks guys
to me, it seems very strange cuz there more pressure
in the h2o system than in the oil, so water would blow into the oil...?
unless its being compressed into there from hg failure?
anyway, i gotta start pulling it apart, again, so i will find the
problem hopefully sooner than later!
sounds like the oil cooler wasnt installed correctly. that thing has to literally be pressed into the housing for everything to seal properly or it could be a case where the new one failed way to early who knows
if the new oil cooler is the problem, wouldnt
there be water in the oil???
ive been doing alot of browsing thru the forum,
which is so helpful, but is there a more specific
write-up or archived tech folder article on head gaskets??
i wanna make sure i get all the necessary gaskets and
any easy upgrades as well....(stc fitting?? mines an 04')
ive been looking at rcd on ebay for black onyx gaskets and arp bolts
for 600$
and since i have to at least tear down to oil cooler,
might as well do hg's this time!
there just seems like im gonna need a whole bunch more than that.
thanks fellas!
