Post a picture of your camper special and let other members help you determine if it is a camper special. Just trying to help .if it has the special wiring harness and plug.does it have a metal tag on the cowl that says camperspecial. Does it have the wheel trim does it have the type 3 west coast mirrors. Does it have power disc brakes .and power steering. My 70 cab chassis has air conditioning. Does yours.not doubting you .

If it has the special wiring harness and plug, does it have Camper Special emblems on the cowl (1970/72).
Does it have the wheel trim does it have the type 3 west coast mirrors. Does it have power disc brakes and power steering. None of these features point to a Camper Special. All these features were available on all F100/350's except the disc brakes that were not available on F100's or w/4WD, P/S not available w/4WD
Wheel opening mouldings were standard equipment on all except Customs. Type 3 Western mirrors were part of the Camper Special package, but were optional on others.
Dual piston caliper power disc brakes were optional on 1968/72 F250 2WD's and F350's, they were not part of the Camper Special package.
P/S was also available as an option on all these trucks except with 4WD
F350 Camper Specials were introduced in 1967, were available thru 1972 as a Cab & Chassis or with an 8' Styleside bed.
No F250 4WD Camper Specials until 1977, 4WD wasn't available for F350's until 1979.
If I remember correctly (CRS) , Bill checked out my 72 years ago and according to the VIN was a C & C. It has a 390, power steering , Disc 2 piston caliper brakes, type 3 mirrors. Don't remember about the wheel trim and seeing as how it's 600 miles away right now...

Wheel opening mouldings were standard equipment on 1967/69 Custom Cabs, 1967/72 Rangers, 1970/72 Sport Customs & Ranger XLT's (both introduced in 1970).
Customs did not come with any type of side mouldings. Some people added them after the fact.
I don't recall as it's been too many years ago, but Ford may have had "spring time" promotions that included upper body side and wheel opening mouldings for Customs.
Then what makes my 72 f250 camper special a camper
Picture of the camperspecial emblem
My vin number is f25hrm60707 the certification sticker matches the vin number .marti says it is a camper special. It is also a sport custom. Is sport custom a trim package .does the picture that I posted help .thankyou .or is my 72 cs not a cs .

Im thinking of putting my 72 f250 camper special on a 2000 to 2003 econoline e550 4x4 with propane and v10 with automatic transmission .I also want the better load rating .any suggestions on doing this conversion. California says that if the econoline chassis was built and certified with propane. No problem with propane fuel . but don't know about registering or smog.yes I know that someone will make the suggestion just buy a bigger truck .but I won't buy a bigger truck that I don't like .I hope someone understands .that.any help would be appreciated.
The pickup on the "van" chassis will be a bit of work fitting, mounting and for control positions. All the electronics and gauges and wiring need to stay with the chassis. Being that it's propane, if it's over 14000 there is no smog check. But it has to be registered as the E550. Now since you don't have to smog it if it's listed at 14000+, that doesn't mean all the electronics and other controls, "smog" or not, don't have to be there to make it run right.
I only put in my information to help glr figure out what he has .if he goes to marti that would verify what he has.I already knew what you told me thank you .
California still requires that all the controls and wiring remain with the conversion. California will retitled the 72 camperspecial body as whatever the chassis is .so I'm stuck with all the garbage. Can't eleminate anything..that's california. Or basically screw you .also california says that whatever it costs you have to pay.also because the truck is coming in from arizona it has to be inspection. .plus I have to use sb100.also special construction .more problems. But I will spend what I have to drive my truck.thatslife.

For the most part, CA has no vehicle inspections...there are exceptions, but they only apply in certain cases.
I bought a 1962 Studebaker GT Hawk in NY off ebay, went to the Whittier Triple A office, paid the fees and walked out with CA registration and license plates. The entire transaction took 10 minutes.
The car was being transported to L/A by Passport, but hadn't arrived yet. Triple A said nothing about a vehicle inspection.
-----
I bought a 1956 Studebaker Golden Hawk at a swap meet, it hadn't been driven or registered since 1970!
I went to the Whittier DMV office with the 1970 pink, there was no hassle, I paid the fees and got a new title. There wasn't a peep about an inspection.
I've owned over 300 old cars since the 1950's, don't recall any hassle with registering any of them. NONE required a vehicle inspection.
CA smog tests 1976 and newer vehicles, so your old rolling piles of misery are exempt.

Quoting again as there are 3 or more topics in the old thread. If you are serious about asking for help putting a '72 F250 on a 2000-2003 E550 Chassis, you should start your own thread.
IMO You really need to have both of these vehicles titled and registered in CA before you make the conversion. That said, when you are running down the road and the CHP or other fine LEO runs the plates on what looks like a '72 F250 and it comes back as an E550, you will be explaining, in detail, what you have done. You will have to run it as an E550 to get the GVWR you want. As for being stuck "with all the garbage", will it's that garbage that makes the vehicle operate.
