I have recently purchased an F250SD 4x4 crewcab Lariat with the tube type running boards. Everything is factory stock. My problem is that I have difficulty reaching over the side of the bed when I want to set something in there, like a flat of plants from the nursery. I have to drop it the last three inches. And when I want to pick it up to take it out using two hands I am coming up short. Is there available a step of some sort that attaches to the frame or extends the tube type running board that would hold 250 lbs. so that I could actually reach all the way into the bed?
Cabelas has a variety of types in their new automotive catalog.
They have a "tire step", item # AP-52-1303 for $34.99 which you set over the tire and use it as a step for exactly what you describe you need.
There order line is 1-800-237-4444
If you want a permanent mounted system, you might look at the Putco as they have one that mounts all the way from the front tire to the rear tire and is an actual platform instead of a "nerf bar". It looks more stable It is part #AP-52-0454 and you have to call their Special customer service to order (1-800-753-3218) Price range is $320-$350 depending on truck configuration.

He gave em to me... said they didn't look good with his grass skirt. I could ship them to you Abendix! Last time I remember someone complains of something being three inches too short, it was monsta's sis talking about you.

Ford offers a "tire step" which you hang from the top of your rear tire and it gives you a step. I could not find it on the website but I sure you could find them via a Ford Parts/Accessories Department.
Oh...I get it. So I get these monster shoes with the three inch lift and that will make me tall enough to reach into the bed.
But seriously - thanks for the suggestions. I will check them out. By the way - it came with a diesel. Larry

well..... of course she was talking about me.... there are some SOLID reports from donahoe... i guess he saw me when he was looking through my windows....
i am not so sure why tho... maybe he wanted to steal one of my harleys or fabtech equipped truck???
N-Fab makes the wheel to wheel nerfs Les was referring to. They come in 2, 4 & 6 step configurations. Unlike typical ners they hug tight against the body. The 6 step would serve your purpose well. Check out the 03 SD in my sig to see a 4 step version. Hope this helps.
