Hi, I need to put a new engine in my 6.4l. My question is, do I have to take the cab off or can I do it cab on? Most everywhere I've looked the reccomend doing it with the cab off but at the moment I don't have access to a lift. Any advice would be awesome!!
were there is will there is a way. there is also a book that tell you how to do it. its in the workshop book.
you will need a good size engine lift to remove it. they are a little on the overweight size

Thanks,, cheezit. so where would I find this workshop book?? In your opinion what is the best way to do this?? And is there anyway you know about how many hours are involved in/ or billed for engine removal and replacement on an 08 6.4l.
cutomer pay cab on verys greatly... it depends on the truck and why the repair has to be cab on. imo labor starts in 35+ range. that does not include any extras such as tear down and inspect.
so far as were to find the factory workshop book. alldata online, ebay.. etc.
My opinion on this is that if I did know a way to do so I would not ever post it on a public forum that can be read by anyone that may cause a reduction in my pay or any other tech. I would not provide this information till it was released in text and it was an approved method by Ford motor co... As has pretty much been my poilcy from day one.
please dont think this is any way ment to be rude, but theres been far to many pay cuts as of latly with changing labor times.
You will probably need plenty of of other information in the process such as torque values, etc. requiring the factory manual.
I have used alldata many a time with GM vehicles; I only wish GM had a site as nice as Ford. I have active subscriptions at alldata right now for when I have worked on family member's vehicles and friends. It is better than nothing; but, when I had paper factory manuals and simply wanted to find something I knew existed it was a royal pain in the butt using their navigational tools.
The motorcraftservice.com website also gets you FSA, TSB's/SSM's, Electrical, & PC/ED; and the Workshop manual. You can search OASIS for your subscribed model vehicle with respect to symptoms; amongst other things. A short-term subscription is for 72 hours ($10.95), a monthly subscription is for 31 days ($19.95), and a yearly subscription is for 365 days ($109.95). http://www.motorcraftservice.com/vdi...d=&kevin=rules

If you find a paper copy on E-BAY you will want to go to Section 303-01C as pasted above at the top of this reply.
On one of the Ford forums ther was a guy in Oregon that replace the 6.0 with a Cummins motor and did so with the cab on. Most of the front clip was removed to get the monster out.
last year when i purchased a new crate 6.4 to put in my truck it was done by my local dealer and total re and re including new coolant and some hoses that got smushed and new cab and engine mnt bolts came to 1800$. cdn i thought that was a great deal and havent had a problem since, i wanted it done cause u can screw it up good if u dont know what your doing or half *** it
sorry ur right there was a vibration that they found by putting sensors on the truck and found the vibration coming from the front, which they changed out the harmonic balancer and the fan clutch... all good sorry about that oh and they covered the cost of both those too great dealer they use me well and i use them well, i also had to put a new belt tensioner on it that was on me and Cheezit gave me a great tip for getting it out alot quiker than the manual says!! thanks again Cheezit!!!!
Why the heck is the workshop manual so expensive? I'd love to have one for my 6.0 but $30 a month is crazy. You can buy a Haynes manual for pretty much any gas motor for 20 bucks
