400 expert advice needed

ok here it is.......i have a '72 400.....i want to make 400hp and 400+lbs of Tq......heres what i have blueprinted so far

.030 over pistons from Badger 9.5:1CR
Weiand Stealth or X Cellerator Manifold Non-EGR
Edelbrock AVS 650cfm carb
Comp Cams Xtreme cam
specs: Adv.268/280 Lift:509/512" full roller and the optional kit ofcoarse dont wanna mix an match parts
Comps roller rockers 1.72 ratio
Milled heads most likely to .025
static CR should be about 9.98875 if my math is correct
MSD 6AL ignition system
K&N Filter



thats about it........do you all think this will make 400hp at the rear wheels? if you dont or see something that could improve the hp id be very greatful if youd let me know

I would say that this set-up would make 400 H.p at the flywheel easy .. but to the rear wheels I'm not sure ??? theres so many things that can zap Horsepower away in the drive train....

very true Shaz....any ideas on how to cut drive train power loss?

Trans is a C6
rear end is a rare (first one i've come across)open 8.7" with 2.73 stock gears

i want to upgrade to 3.73 gears an put a locker in them retarded open rear ends

Well in the Truck Pulling Commuity a C6 cost about 50 H.p. So I'd start looking for a Standard Tranny Np 435 or a T-18...

I always thought the C6 ate more like 85HP, you aren't losing more than 5 HP in your rear end though the gears are relatively easy to turn.

a quick look at dd2k

stock valves

417hp @ 5k - 464tq @ 4k - single plane
401hp @ 3.5k - 463tq @ 3.5k - dual plane

4V valves

439hp @ 5.5k - 472tq @ 4k - single plane
418hp @ 5.5k - 467tq @ 4k - dual plane

this is est. at the crank

10:1 cr, 4V vales, and porting

484hp @ 6k - 492tq @ 4.5k - single plane
458hp @ 5.5k - 481tq @ 4.5k - dual plane

all of these are with headers

What powerband are you looking for? That intake manifold and cam will be awsome towards the top end but I hope your not puttin it in your dialy driver heavy truck lol. Also if what your are looking for is top end then I hope your throwing a set of headers and free-flowing exhuast on it. Just my $0.02

OK Keep the C6 and just go to 4.11 gears ....will help make up the lose ........

A 2,300 rpm stall converter will really get you off the line faster.

these are not acutare, to get better numbers i need the head flow data. but its a rough guess.
