layed down on my truck the other day. Had it hauled to ford . They want 3500 and said they wont do the job unless they replace all the injectors. REALLY tempted to trade it in on a 5.0 f-150 or ecoboost! I can do the hpop myself but just afraid it will lead to other problems down the road. What do you guys usually do?
why do they need to replace the injectors and being an 06 i doubt the pump went bad. get away from them now and take it somewhere else. its prob just a STC fitting which cost 60 bucks. the bad part is the labor to get to it but yes you can do it just takes some time.

I totally agree. I HOPE they included KY in that estimate. I'd bet on an STC fitting also. You can air test it to make sure that's what it is or to at least narrow down WHERE the HPO leak is. Damn if I'd let them work on MY truck.
anyone have a diagram of said fitting? I have no problems replacing the pump but if it is something as simple as that i will feel like an ***! I have ALWAYS done my own work im just so short on time with my new job!
Don't have a diagram handy but here's the part numbers from Ford or International: STC Kit 4C3Z-9B246-F 1879930c91
The fitting screws into the pump then bolts to the block but it's a LOT cheaper to do the fitting than spending another $500+ for a pump. Labor is the same for both. If you're close to Ft. Smith, Ar. and need someone to install it, I work pretty cheap.

about 2 hrs away from u I know i can do it myself (did my egr delete) but the trouble is finding the time!
btw: what should i look for as far as fitting failure is concerned? I would hate to replace the fitting and then find out it WAS the pump and do the tear down twice! Sorry for all the questions guys....im a 7.3/modular guy!

Not sure that you can see it but you can pull the ICP sensor, apply 12V to the IPR valve (for < 30 seconds) to close it, and apply air to the ICP sensor hole. You should be able to hear the leak from one of the valve covers or center back of the motor. Using a pipe or homemade stethascope helps there.
BTW--2 hours isn't far for me to travel if you want me to do it. I'm sure we can come to terms--LOL.
yea pump failures on a 05-07 are very rare but do happen. you will know if the fitting is blown. the fittin can be done and truck put back together in about 5-7 hours but thats working steady. if i were you i would down it for a week and just work on it during your off time and do the dummy plugs and standpipes while your there so that way you know for sure that you "shouldnt" have another HPO leak and you can eliminate that if you ever have another no start incodent
I agree with above posts. Shop quoted $2100(not dealer) said pump was bad. I said no. 1 STC fitting later truck is running the best it has in a long time. Failed so slowly it was hard to notice the loss of power over time. Easy to notice when it all came back at once. Do it yourself. With the egr gone access is easier too.
On a side note going back to your OP. I love my truck and need the diesel for my 5er. However, If an F-150 would fill my needs, that's exactly what I'd be driving. About 2/3 less maint. and much cheaper parts.
