i'm trying to put on Clays FRX, but the plugs wont move. i have sprayed them and when i put the 5/16 and 11/32 on it it rounded it off. i have tried vise grips and adjustable wrench but it will not move. what should it try next?
Are you talking about the square headed plugs? I used a square-drive socket, I think 5/16. I have a set from snap-on that has male and females. Worked good, you grab much more of the sides of plug with them.
When I did mine I used wd 40 then pb blaster 5 or 6 times over several days. They came out pretty easy using a 11/32 8 or 12 point socket. This thread might give you some more ideas: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...n-my-butt.html
If you rounded them off you'll probably have to use some vice grip or specialty socket for damage bolt heads.
The wd40 seemed to help the pb blaster penetrate. Sounds like you may have to use a bolt extractor. They have the ones for rounded heads that should grab.
Sears sells bolt and nut removal sockets like the ones pictured also .They work great and are a lifesaver when you need them .I keep a set in the truck and a set in my shop.Very usefull when all else fails
I had to remove my a/c compressor as well. Actually I took the bolts out of bracket to get it out of my way. I have a set of the square drive sockets from snap-on but I forgot to bring them home the night I did mine. Were you careful when reinstalling the spring? I thought I was but got it caught on one the tabs. Didn't know it til I decided to check my fuel pressure 2 weeks later. It pegged my 100psi gauge. Took it apart and recentered the spring and was all good .
Good job.
