I have two 302 Engines that are about in the same condition, both needing a new rebuild and both needing a .030 O/S pistons from the stock bore. One is a 1972 and the other is a 1984. I plan to de-smog both motors except for a PCV. Does one of these core motors have any parts that I should try to use on on the final rebuild motor? Maybe mix and match a few parts from each? I have found very little info on what works well and what doesn't. I plan on the one rebuilt engine to have a RV cam, and very small 4 barrel.
Thanks for the info. I think I have one of each flex plate. I was wondering some if both sets of heads have hardened seats, and the same CC's for the final CR.

'72 heads will have small(58cc) chambers but are unlikely to have hardened seats and the heads on the '84 will be smog heads with big(69cc) chambers. Post of the casting numbers for both.
IMO it's a waste to put any $$ in either of these, I suggest you pickup some late model E7TE heads which have a median chamber size(62-64cc) and hardened seats and are a dime a dozen since being used on nearly every single 302 and 351 build from 1987 on.
