I supposedly need a steering column. The shop says the pin in the shift linkage/ shifter is broken. I guess where the shifter handle/lever is. Can I get replacement parts or am I looking at needing a whole new column?
I'm going to check out the column today after work and se what the definite issue is. After researching today I know I need more info to determine what I need.
Same thing happened to mine, it's supposedly a pretty common problem for these 67-72. If you lived closer I'd toss you a 73-79 column cause I have an extra one up on a shelf in my garage for the past 5 years.
Right now the shifter just glides through the arc of motion and there is no shifting capability. Is the shift collar itself broken or is there an internal part? I can't find anything on internal parts aside from the shift arm, pin, shift insulator, shift arm clip and shift tube as being the shift parts?
Is there something missing in the LMC catalog? I can't imagine that it wouldn't list all the needed parts. Especially something that apparently is crucial to making the shifter work?

Cracker, where are you located? If you are interested in selling and the combined cost ( shipping / your price ) is reasonable I would be interested.

I'm in NC. How come it shows where you are, but doesn't show where I am? I'm looking at my profile trying to figure out why it hides that part and can't figure it out.
hey guys, I have a 68 f100 and same thing. The steering column is broke. What do I do? What do I use to replace that with? Do I shop from a catalog or go to junk yard and get one from a different year? Any help here would be great. thanks guys. Im in cleveland ohio..
Hey Hooty
I saw you on the 61-66 forum and I have just rebuilt my steering column.
There are a lot of different prices for bearings... from $4.95 to $15.
for a bearing that cannot compare to the bearings on my 1995 Gary Fisher bicycle.
Anyhow here's a view of that column, in case u don't have one.
Do some searching on the subject here, there are a lot of part numbers to figure out
for something as simple as it is.
Factory bushings were metal and aftermarket are plastic...

Hey go to pAge 97 in new lmc catalog or go online. My book is the 57-72 ford truck one. They have most of the parts. If ur shifter is broke they have a pin and the part that connects to the handle/ shifter. Also it's common like mine to brak at the tune. Pot metal. So I need a whole new collar which lmc has. Later.

Hey cracker are you willing to part with it? If so, let me know what you are asking and I will check out shipping.
NC huh? Wherea-bouts/ I spent quite a bit of time near Fayette-nam. LOL! Loved the state. Too many of us Yankees moving there now though.
I have generally found that when people from NY,NJ,CT. or Mass-hole land move somewhere else they typically bring their effed up ideas and culture and try turning it into the crap hole they left.
They are definitely effing up Rhode Island.
Sorry for the rant off topic. Just hate it especially the NY, NJ. and Mass-holians.
