I want to get my A/C working again but I am missing the A/C compressor, two hoses and the mounting brackets. The condenser also has one of the ends twisted some and it hasn't been covered up so I think it might need replaced too.
Is there any way I can tell what compressor my truck had? Or should I just replace it and the mount with whatever I can find?
The compressor, accumulator, O-tube and condensor are readily available through most parts stores. The brackets and hoses are the real issue. Hoses were discontinued years ago, if you can find originals, machine and rubber shops can rebuild or worst case can make you some hoses. the bracket will be salvage.
The condensor needs to be replaced as well as the dryer.
If you are putting 134A in you need to replace your hoses and if your system uses barbs and clamps to hold the hoses on then you will need to change that as well.
I had a local place (AAPAK) make new hoses for me for 45 bucks a piece with new fittings on them.
If you are buying a compressor get the Sanden (round) model. The York sucks horses and is inefficient comparatively.
If you truck had dealer installed A/C it would have a York. If it was factory I think they always came with the sanden style.
Be warned converting from York to Sanden on the brackets. The little bracket that "easily" converts your stock bracket to sanden style fails to address wobble and I had to weld together a bracket that would work to stop it.
I'd just go and grab a sanden bracket from a junk yard.
I circled a few things. I noticed in your diagram the place where you connect the large hose that runs along the firewall to the compressor is already facing the other way; while mine is facing more forward. (If you get what I'm saying)
Thanks for the info guys.

Reason: Make pic show up inline, then SHRINK as it was frickin' HUGE!!!
See if you can get THIS GUY to help ya, he just spent some time on an AC rejuvenation project.
BTW I made your pic show up inline (click on Insert Image instead of Insert Link to make 'em show up inline) but then noticed it's a wall-sized mural, so I told it to display at 1024 pixels wide.
Ya might shrink your pix when ya put 'em up because, even though I'm telling it to display at a smaller size, it's still the same byte size that needs to be downloaded to everybody's computers, then the CPU power to render it smaller, all that could be avoided by your merely shrinking it at the start.
Yeah, I didn't embed the picture because of the size. I had the same one saved at like 1024x768 but I was in a hurry (or lazy) and didn't resize this one.
I'm just going to check the closest junk yard and see if I can get everything I need at one place.

Huh???????
Just went and looked through the pictures in the 80-89 parts book (yes, I'm bored) and, yes, I can see that what you say seems to be the case.
Most of the time, anyway.
Except for 1980 & 81 F-Series, Broncos & vans, with any engine, the pictures show the York/Tecumseh thing, generally on its side, for Factory air.
Seems that FS6 thing was added to the mix in 1982.
Yeah, I was going off the fact that he said his was an 82...
He is luckier that way too, the clutches for the York/Tecumseh are getting harder to find in the aftermarket since they stopped using them in HD applications.
Was that really the 80s... I think it was the 90's. I'm not that old...lol
