94 f150 4.9 - just put a new EGR Vac. Solenoid on to elimimate Code 558. Runs much better, but Check engine Lt On an new code 332 is set. Egr valve passed the mechanical test and nearly kills the idle when vac.,is applied. What shoukd I look at next?
Thanks
Check all the vacuum hoses around there. On mine when i got it and i touched them they fell apart or broke. Went to autozone grabbed me some of the hose and replaced EVERY factory colored hose on my motor. All my error codes went away and have not had a problem since!
If all the vacuum hoses are OK then take a look at the EVR solenoid that controls the EGR valve. If it is not sending vacuum to the EGR valve it will not open.
I agree with subford as well. before i checked hoses i had codes going between the solenoid and the EGR valve. come to be it was all in the hoses. Nothing was wrong, poor vacuum.
EGR WOES! AH XXXX! WELL THOUGHT I HAD IT! 332 CODE CAME BACK!!!!!!!!!
Ok all new hoses, new Egr position sensor, and the 3rd Egr Vac. solenoid installed. The Egr will open when source Vac. is applied from the bottom hose going to the solenoid. I have 12VDC on the right side connector pin on the Ev. sol., and can ground out the other pin, but this 3rd switch will not supply enough Vac. to open the Egr. I know they do vent internally, and I am begining to become suspect of these cheap aftermarket parts. Could it be, I just need a Motorcraft replacement part????
I will check the vac., however, if I bypass the switch altogether and put the source vac. directly to the EGR, it will definately open. These cheap solenoids, once energized, I don't believe allow all the vac. to pass through...or should I say, the solenoid becomes a vacuum leak at the internal vent once energized. The vent should seal when energized, but open to allow the EGR to retract or close once de-energized.
The one I have been getting is from the Zone is Duralast, and after trying 3 different ones, I am almost convinced, their manufacturer could be making a bad part?!
There could be a pin hole in the EGR diaphram also thats rendering it barely useable also, and it needs all the vac. it can get!?!
Or maybe your vacuum is fluctuating and just at the time of the PCM command you happen to have low vac and hence the error code...how's the general shape of the motor and the exhaust system.
The Egr will open when source Vac. is applied from the bottom hose going to the solenoid.
??????
The bottom hose on the the solenoid goes to the vacuum tree. The EGR valve hose goes to the top hose.
Did you go to the link I posted in post #5 above?
I need to put a guage on it. the engine is in good shape...only 110k, and well kept. Timing, tune all within spec. And I did check out FFI site-thanks SUB.,,,,funny thing is, I know there is plenty of Vac. if I can branch around the switch and the EGR opens no problem!?
