New V10 owner

Tomorrow I will be the proud owner of a 2003 F350 with the V10. It's a crew cab with 48,000 miles on it. The dealer is replacing the manifold bolts, 2 of them were broken and a few other issues before I take possession of it. It's primary use will be to tow a travel trailer.

Does anyone have anything I should be aware of or look at upgrading?

Thanks

spark plugs..

change em out along with new boots for teh COP's and be sure to retorque em to specs.

no wrench tightening allowed in this repair.

that and a full set of fluids. and you should be golden for ages.

Fordfan, could you explain what you meant by "along with new boots for teh COP's and be sure to retorque em to specs" I understand what you said about torqueing the plugs, because the V10's spit them out on occasion, but the rest was greek. BTW,what is the recommended mileage for plug change out on the 6.8L and do they have a timing belt or chain that should be done at some point? I just bought my first 2000 F350 V10 crew cab with 68,500 miles and I want to be religious about maintenance. Thanks for the reply

sorry i meant replace the rubber boots that seal the connection between the COPs (coil over plug) and the plug itself.

they are cheap insurance against further electrical problems.

as far as the timing chains (yes there are 2), i wouldnt be worried about it with that low of a milage on ur truck.

You may want to throw in replacing your differential oil and a tranny fluid flush. While the diff. cover is off, you could look into getting an aluminum cover replacement to help keep it cool when towing.

The dealer is replacing the 2 broken stud bolts, but will they replace the remaining 18 of them at the same time? The other ones would be a ticking time bomb. I wonder if they would throw on headers for you to alleviate this issue from ever happening again?

Thanks for the replies. The dealer changed the oil, I will be be changing the other fluids shortly. I had them change all the bolts on the manifold.

I have to call the dealer tomorrow, the windshield wipers don't work. Hopefully this isn't a sign of things to come.
