go through some mud in 2 wheel drive and than switch into 4. if the 4 wheel drive is working you will most def feel greater traction. theres more options but i think this would be the easiest. or u could engage it and look under the truck to see if it is indeed engaged. jackstands im not sure of unless you have limited slip in the front or a locker. open diff im not too dead sure will spin both tires but only one.
If both tires are in the air it should spin them both because they both have equal traction (none).

What year truck? Manual hubs & t-case, or auto hubs & electric t-case? If it's all manual, lock ONE THING AT A TIME (each front wheel and the t-case) and make sure the driveshaft going to it WON'T turn. With everything unlocked, all 3 sections should spin fairly freely.
