No red line??

Why is there not a red line on this tach on my 2006 6.0 Powerstroke.? How fast can these engines safely turn ? Thanks

Great question! I found myself sitting in the ferry lineup the other day wondering the same thing. My dads 01 7.3 has a red line which is clearly marked fairly low, my 07 tach looks like that in a gasser.

wonder why they took them out....my 03 6.0L has it....it must be a cost savings of 3 cents worth of paint.

Can't speak to a diesel, but my gasser is computer controlled. When you get up to about 5200 rpm it cuts out until the rpm drops back down.

I guess the point is, the engine can't operate at destructive speeds, hence there is no redline, because you can't get there.

x2....

the diesel will de-fuel once it reaches the factory speed and rev limit....

My '99 V10 doesn't have the red line marked either, which I thought was weird. But with an automatic I doubt it really matters since it won't let you rev it high enough to cause any damage. My old VW was a diesel, and there was no tach, but you couldn't go beyond a certain RPM anyway since it was mechanically governed by the injector pump. Actually, you were more likely to damage that engine by lugging it than by over revving it.

Pretty much ALL engines now have electronic rev limiters.

Reduces warranty claims from stupid or abusive owners....
