I think you guys have it covered. My .02 is tire size, I was running 36x14.5s and Im still able to get 16mpg summer fuels..... In the winter with winter fuels and 315/75s snow tires I average 13.5 all empty and mixed driving amd Im in it all the time with stock 3:73 tell how that is sooooooo far off from what you guys get in your stock height and tire trucks........ What Im getting at is dont blame the tires these truck have more than enough power to compensate for a little bigger tire. 16 mpg outta anyone of our 4wd trucks isnt bad because they weigh in a 8k pounds and have the areodynamics of a brick

Thanks for the info guys. From what youre telling me it looks like I am due for new injectors at 195k miles.

Any recommendations for REMANED brands? or new from FORD? Does Ford sell remaned?

Yes truck was aligned just the other day.

Swamps

Rosewood diesel

Or Full Force, are my opinions for injectors.

That being said, I would not just replace them because you feel it is time, or others say that it is time. I'm sure Ford probably does sell new or remanned but they will be more expensive.

If you decide to get injectors then you need to decide what your goals are, continue with stock, or perhaps a little or lot upgrade. New or remanned AC code injectors, AKA Stage 1 single shots, are a great option IMO but you will need custom tuning to run them.

I really appreciate your thoughts. So then, how do I know if one or any of the injectors is bad, aside from sending them to be tested for $225? Is that money well spent at 195k miles?

Stock...no time for tuning.

How does your truck start? Are you having performance issues? Motor shaky or rough running? Have you Buzz tested the injectors, do they sound crisp cold and warm? Have you watched the oil discharge under the valve covers while running, are they all even?

Until you have an issue I wouldn't worry about it, unless you want to do it pre-emptively to prevent breakdown later on.

IIRC new injectors had the same warranty as remanneds from Full force. Swamps have a 5 year warranty now I believe, but cost a little more.

As for no time for tuning, all you would really need is a tune for the single shots, not really live tuning. You could even go without a chip and have you PCM flashed for the single shots in a "stock" configuration. Although I don't know why you wouldn't want some performance tunes.

BigAlPSD, trust me, I am in no rush to spend $1000 on injectors. OUCH!

Buzz test? Watch the oil discharge!?!?!?!? How do I do that? wow! sounds cool.

I bought this truck from my employer. Since we didnt pay for fuel we never paid attention to MPG. First whole tank I ran through it gave me only 10 MPG, mixed driving but mostly city, with no towing and normal driving.

She starts fine. She seems to run ok, good power, no shaking, but I dont have another 7.3L to compare her too.

I started using Diesel Kleen and 2-stroke which quieted her down so so so much, but the MPG are scary. Hence my interest in checking the injectors. Maybe HPOP?

Fuel/water separator was changed at 157k miles on 3/4/2009. (currently 195k)

Fuel filter changes at 144k miles. (12/15/2007)

Engine oil and oil filter were changed at 193500k (8/2011).

I need to clean the filter tube and vacuum pressure sensor.

Tires set at 70-PSI all around and she was aligned last month. Brake are quite new. I dont think they p-brake is sticking...

Thoughts?

Can you go under truck and look at engine between Transmission. Are there wet spot?

10 mpg I would been very ANGRY. My F350 only get 15.67 that was winter blend and tons of city stop plus idle alot. Temp vary from 10oF to 40oF. What I notice if it very cold it will use TONS fuel alot.

Why Fuel/water separator was change? Rot leak fuel or it crack from overtight fuel lid?

Yes yes ANGRY is an appropriate term. I agree!

I just changed the transmission myself in my driveway 200 miles ago so I am intimiately familiar with that area!!! Why am I looking for wet spots there? Fuel? Engine oil?

I dont know why the fuel/water separator was changed as my company had it changed before I owned it. I just have the maintenance records.

I wish I have picture of those.

When you look at oil pan to tran pan are they wet or dry spot?

If it wet can you smell? If there wet then it fuel filter leak. I never knew mine were leak until I got sick of see 15-16 mpg at 55 mph for alot miles until found tiny leak on fuel lid and broke fuel drain valve that leak when under pressure. After that now I can get 18.5-19 mpg but winter put back to 15-16.

On trans you replaced. Did you put torque convertor with lower stall speed? That what I have in mine. I think 200 rpm lower stall. Did improve how it drive in city. Before it would rev higher like 1900-2000 to go in city traffic

It would be best idea if you test boost leak too.

You know anyone have scanner that will work with diesel so it will tell how injectors are in condition.

Where you in? If you near Detroit I would bring scanner but with diesel price so it gamble.

Thanks for offering but I am in Maryland. Need to find someone with an applicable scanner in MD, near Baltimore or DC.

Boost leak...good thought. I'm gonna check the Up-Pipes again and connection at the turbo again to make sure its snug. I changed the up-pipe gaskets when I changed the tranny.
