I have 2 codes showing up. P1151 ( Lack of oxy sensor, sensor indicates lean) and P0153 (oxy sensor circuit slow response, Bank 2 Sensor1). What is the likely cause of these codes ( is it just the oxygen sensor, fuel delivery problems etc?)?
Where is the Bank 2 Sensor 1 located and is this something I can change on my own - somewhat mechanically inclined?
I have a 97 F150 ext 4x4 with the 4.6l stock, 105000km.
I am a new user so I appologize for asking questions previously asked. I have found the location of this sensor through a search. I still would like opinions on the possible cause. Are oxygen sensors covered under the 8yr, 130000km warranty?
I would bet money its the sensors. They don't last forever. They get carbon built up on them. As it builds up on the sensor, it responds more slowly to exhaust oxygen content changes until it stop working completley. I have seen some people remove them and try to burn the buildup off with a torch with some luck. I would buy new sensors however.
A vacuum leak could also cause a lean code because unmetered air is being sucked into the engine. When the air flows into the intake it is metered by your mass air sensor. If air is introduced after this sensor the engine will run lean.
As far as the warranty goes, I would consider this sensor a regular maintence item.
You will save money by replacing them about every 50 or 60 thousand miles because they have a big effect on gas milage.
