1984 VW Rabbit Diesel. In a way I kind of miss the 40-50 mpg it got. I could go for weeks without stopping at a gas station. It had 120,000 miles on it when I bought it, sold it to my brother and he took it to Alaska with him. Had close to 300,000 on it when he sold it. It was stripped out, and turned in to a "beach buggy" at a commercial fishing site and is still wondering up and down the beaches around Nikiski during the summer.
My Dad and I built this as my first car. It had a 289/C4 and by doing everything (and I mean everything) ourselves I had less than $2,000 in it in 1979. I racked up over 100K miles on it for the next 5 years, including moving from NorCal to Phoenix, Az and back in that truck. Still have it, although it's in pieces right now. But someday...
My first car that ran was a 1965 Buick Skylark convertible. I bought it used in 1969. I loved that car. I have had several 1965 Skylarks since, some parted out, some restored, and some just driven, but that was my only convertible Skylark.
A 1968 Thunderbird with a 429. I didn't care that it had all the window wires cut to shreds, It had a clean body, and a big block. It had SCJ valve covers on it, and ran really strong. With a black interior & no windows working it was a sweat box in the summer. I was 16 and didn't care, I just wanted a nice big block and it was only $200. My brother had a 70 bird with a 429, and I really liked that engine!
Peeling paint all over, gave it a $100 Maaco job and stuffed it full of audio upgrades - I don't think the chicks were that into it but I thought it was bad ***.

Very cool. Lucky guys!
My first car was a 1967 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham. 429 with a Holly 4bbl carb. It used to be the courtesy car at the mortuary when new.
