I have an '89 F-350 I bought it used a few years back. I noticed awhile ago that the emergency flashers actvate the brakes on the trailer. Yesterday I installed a new controller (the old one came apart) I noticed whoever installed the old one had hooked up the cold side of the stop switch at the brake light switch on the pedal arm. I installed it as per the instructions, on the c shaped connector second wire (light green) on the top row of seven. I had hoped this would solve my problem, but to no avail... it still does the same thing. I would appreciate any suggestions.
The hazard circuit turns on the brake lights, just like the brake switch, so that's a characteristic of all electrically-activated controllers. If you go to an inertia or hydraulic controller, it'll quit.
this dosen't cause much of a problem along the side of the road, BUT when pulling up a grade and going slow, DON'T put on the em flashers like some do. it would be like pumping your brakes while giving it the gas.

Tekonsha (and probably others) makes an Isolator for this very problem. I'm not sure what it costs, likely not much. It is on their website. www.tekonsha.com
