towing

Well we took off to Myrtle beach today with our 6k ft in tow. It was the most aggrivating trip. I looked at the gauges more than I did the road. At 60 MPH I was in OD and right at 1000 egg. My tranny was fine at 167. If I decided to drop it out of OD it would get around 850 egt but my tranny would climb to 190. 190 is not bad but I do not want to hear the drone at 2400rpm. Would a boost leak cause this?

Very possibly could. Wouldnt hurt to check your boots make sure none of the clamps are loose or none of the boots are torn. Are they the original boots?

Take a spray bottle with water and a little soap mixed in it. Spray it around all your connections and watch for the bubbles. Dont forget the plenums under the spider had a boost leak show up there not too long ago on here. Good luck.

Is the truck stock or running a chip or anything?

I aggree with Lance above. Do you have a chip? And where is your probe at? 1000 is high when just crusing on level ground. I tow heavier then that and don't see that in DP tuners 40 tow mod. Keep us posted. Chet

Well that's not that high. It all depends on the truck. Tire size, gearing, tuning, exaust, intake, really the list can go on. Not saying you don't have an issue but here is a vid of me pulling on flat land. Heck empty doing 80 my egt's are around 1000 deg.

I also am not sure there is a problem. I have done the beach trip to the Myrtle Beach area towing often and there are many routes over that are not flat, although not sure of OP's route. Mix heat, hills, along with the added wind resistance and weight of a trailer and I would expect to see higher numbers. Especially on the Asheville to Beach route, I am in and out of tow/haul often, based on EGTs.

My two cents worth,

Steve

Check out my sig. I was towing in 60 tow. What is the rpm range I need to be in? It runs great at 75 keeping the egt around 850 buts I do not want to run that fast.

If your like me and posting from a smart phone it's not showing your sig, even if I go to
Normal version. Sometimes if I need to have my sig show up I have to go to normal version and post, then it will show my sig but only I I'm in the normal version. The mobil app trys to simplify things and I guess a sig is just extra.

Lol, just FYI... you have no Sig that I can see! If thats w/ a stock exhaust, seems normal. Maybe a tad high for an aftermarket exhaust. Like others, not convinced there is a problem, but wouldn't hurt to check out ther boots.

I think everything is fine. The problem is in OD and at 60 mph your RPMs are too low. Not a new issue. The fixes are 1)tow with OD off, 2) Speed up to get higher RPMs {not always a good idea}, 3) regear to have the RPMs higher at the speed you want to tow. My 5er is a good bit heavier, but I never tow at 60mph in OD because of EGTs and lack of pulling power at those low of RPMs. I typically don't turn OD back on until closer to 65.

If you're going to tow at 60mph, then I'd say yes, OD off.
