The one thing in this thread I can really agree with is to give some sort of indication to what your thread is about in the title. I for one generally skip over threads with generic titles because I don't have time to read every single thread. I look for ones that either interest me or sound like they have a problem I may be able to help with.
Yep, same here.
On the flip side, if it's a common problem that's been answered a hundred times, I'll sometimes still do a good read of the thread to try and garner even more knowledge about a problem that's been addressed a hundred times.
For example, we all know a vacuum leak can compromise the ESOF 4x4 system, and an indicator of this problem is the AC blowing on defrost only. Even though I KNOW what causes it, I'm still really interested in those threads, and tend to lurk, because the vacuum leak can be anywhere, and the more I read about that problem, the more versed I am with possibly finding mine, if it ever occurs, ya know?
i'm 25 and pretty handy with a computer, and have to say the search "function" on FTE usually isn't too helpful. i've tried it a couple times and ended up just going to google to search then finding the first FTE result
Choosing advanced search and selecting "search titles only" seems to yield far more relevant results on this or any other vBulletin forum.
Well, I don't be the forum bully, but I sure do be the forum instigator. The first problem I had with my dino burner was answered rather quickly on none other than FTE. I was in a dire situation and could not find the trailer brake plug (some dumb *** at Ford put it on the back side of the mount). The FTE gang pointed me in the right direction, supplied a few shortcuts and test to make sure that damn big plug on back was wired right and got me started back cross county to home, towing a 25 foot trailer and I had brakes and lights, but no right front fender or right doors. LOL
Ueah, I was a newbie then. As soon as I made it home, I let the gang know and then became a member. I was a real dumb *** (still am) about that diesel and when I have a problem, I post it. The search function does suck. I have tried using it. It will bring up pages and pages of stuff not even related to what you are actually looking for.
Hey Tim, hear that, now try to get it fixed. Get your butt up off the floor before I post that pic that you said caused you to fall out. LOL
Bro, you just contradicted yourself. You never got your hand smacked, yet you say we have a tendency to do so? (/looks around..."where did I put that 'hand-smacking' smiley at..... )
Actually, I didn't contradict myself, I stated that when I was a newbie, which was a long time ago, and at time I wasn't "hand smacked" for asking anything. But, not being a newbie for about the same amount of time as yourself, things have changed. Most of us here, myself as well as you, will do all we can to answer and help anyone, with any question at anytime. And that is one reason I am still here.

Barry, I do wish that I could be there with you. Due to financial reasons, I can't come this year. You know what happened. But, I will be at the one next year.
For years, I worked on a major brand of Construction Equipment as a field service mechanic. As the economy waned, the business went under. That was just over 2 years ago. Although its been a relatively short time, i still find myself struggling to remember things that used to be second nature to me.
I wonder if these guys including me asking some of the same old questions that have already been addressed don't make it easier for us to stay sharp with our own particular problems? Maybe help us remember quickly on the side of the road that Fuse 45 or 19 can blow and take our throttle for example. I ended up with my truck as a result of the job going south and eventually ended up here. It could not have come at a better time since I was soon jobless and had a wife with serious temporary medical issues at that time. This truck helped me keep my house and other car so it will stay with me for a long time and will soon be getting some much needed TLC. As soon as I recover from being jobless, I plan on being a supprter to this site so it can continue. In the meantime, I can only offer help on the things I am sure could be a possibilty and read about the things that I am not as familiar with. There are problems to be had on mine but have been fortunate so far that there have been only one non-routine issue. It does have 185k so I could not complain if it did.

Google does a much better job searching here. To make it easier for you, put this "site:ford-trucks.com" in the search box without the quotes and type what you're looking for after it. That way it only searches FTE. For example "site:ford-trucks.com bolt pattern f450"
Carlton you hit it on the head for me! Being a newly (be it youngly at 44) retired feild service engineer/mechanic from the crane industry it's nice to keep my head in the game, otherwise I'm sure I'd go nucking futs!

My problem with the search engine on here (I try to use it first) is that if you go onto the second or third page to look at a post that might give you answers and you go back after looking at it, it takes you to page one of your search results. What the heck is that?
