Well shortly after purchasing this truck I bought a glowshift fuel pressure gauge and was pleased to see 52 psi at idle, 50 accelerating, and 48 under acceleration. All was fine for 2 or 3 weeks then I started to notice the gauge randomly go down to 40 psi at idle an then back to 50ish. Sometimes it was 40 and sometimes 50 so I figured something was wrong with the gauge. I re-grounded it and tried mounting the sending unit in a different location and like magic my fuel pressure was back to the original readings.
Then about a week later (today) I'm driving home and the gauge is stuck like glue on 40 psi. I punched it and it dropped down to about 35. When I got home I idled for a bit and it fluctuated between 40 and 42. Now I don't know what to do. I tried the blue spring upgrade and couldn't get to the bolts without removing the upper rad hose which I don't want to remove. I don't want to have to drain and refill the cooling system because my degas bottle holds perfect at the same level. I'm too afraid I will somehow mess up something (after reading the ridiculous procedure for a coolant flush on this engine I am scared *****less of the cooling system). I'm still under 5/100,000 so I'm thinking about taking it in, but I doubt the dealer will try to fix my low fuel pressure issue because there is nothing wrong with how the truck runs. What should I do? It seems like my only choice is to just let the injectors kill themselves and have ford replace it on their dime.
the other day when you had the upper hose tied back with the rope looked to me like you had plenty of room to do it. I think OP have just push the hose to the side . If you already bought the blue spring Id go for it
DONT let it kill rthe injectors ford may only replace the really bad ones and not all but they all will suffer with low fuel pressure
It just seams like a gamble to me weather or not ford will give yyou a new set of injectors
That wasn't my picture I wish I had it looking like that. I released the pressure by unscrewing the cap on the degas bottle and that took some of the coolant out of the hose, but I was pushing on that hose as hard as I could and it was barely out of my way. I could have gotten the screw out but no way was I getting it back in.
When I did mine, I opened the petcock into a very clean bucket and drained enough out so I could remove the hose from the rad and tied it back out of the way. When done, replaced hose and clamp and poured the coolant back into the bottle.....DONE! Everything stayed at the level is was before I changed it.

I did the same thing
I replaced the thermistate at this time as well as the blue spring
I even filtered the coolant before I put it back in It was my bad I left the clean bucket under the petcock and got alittle junk in it when I tore the truck apart right above it
just do yourself a favor and move the bucket of coolant before you tear into it

So you removed the side connected to the rad not to the engine? Guess I'm just going to have to go for it. I'll be attempting this job for the third time on Saturday lol
just take your time drain alittle coolant off in a clean bucket pull tha upper radiator hose off then undo the fuel return line and then go for the 4 little screws that hold the cover on when you pull the last screw out make shure your hanging on to the cover the spring inside that your replacing will push cover away from the housing. then when you get the last bolt out slowly let the cover push away from the housing and just take note how the spring sits in there against the plunger and the cover. swap the spring and reassemble in reverse order.
if you can change your fuel fiters you can do this just go easy on tourque of those little screws
Dude listen to Blade it easy , and i am from VA beach and Norfolk area , born there , mom has place in nags head go there to run the beach's and tow tourist out its tons of fun
I know its easy just the first time I stripped the filter cap and second time I didn't want to drain the coolant so it should be no problem this time. As long as my injectors last til then haha
If your fuel pressure is at 40lbs and drops to 35lbs under accel.the dealer should fix that problem under warranty.it's clearly out of spec, and your still under warranty right?,or did I miss something?.I guarantee you they'd rather change the spring than an injector.
How would I prove its out of spec though. When I called the SA didn't have a clue what I was talking about he said the tech would have to speak to me and he was out on a test drive. If I show the SA that its 40 he won't know that its good or bad

The service writer/adviser may not have a clue...but if the tech is worth his/her weight they'll know your fixing to eat some injectors with pressure that low. By all means, if the truck is still under warranty...have the dealership take care of it. What ever you do, if your pressure is actually that low...you need to get that taken care of soon before you loose injectors.
The dealer will replace the spring. Mine did and the spring that you already bought take it back and get your money back. If that dealer will not go to another. By the way they have test equipment that can tell what the pressure is.
Well I drove the truck to work this morning and guess what..back to 52 psi ?! This thing is driving me crazy. I'm getting the blue spring in, checking the gauge once and never looking at it again.
