e-350 starter relay - where is it????
having intermittent starter problems!
1994 E-350 van nose ambulance (Whelan Wheeled Coach)
7.3 IDI engine, metric trans.
about 80% of the time, it starts as soon as i touch the key. The other 20%, it will clunk hard, then do nothing. If i repeatedly try to start it, it will eventually turn over normally and start right up, maybe on the second try, maybe on the 25th try. it may work for days and not give trouble, it may act up 2-3 times in a single day.
I removed the torque converter cover and watched the starter work. the bendix comes out and tries to turn. does so only verrrrrry slowwwwwwly. starter SEEMS to be working properly, actually makes enough torque to make itself flex and visibly bend just a bit, but won't turn the engine.
so far i have replaced the starter and the hot lead eyelet(badly salt corroded). have had batteries tested, checked the battery terminals and chassis grounds, replaced glow plugs (some were bad, seem to be working fine now).
I was thinking to replace the starter relay, but i cant find it!!!
if you know where it is, or have any other ideas, please help!!!
