i did however use 4wd a bit this weekend pulling out some trees at my dads....

well something does not jive Micah, because you say you have a 72 460 trans on a 351C.
but the 351C never had the 460 trans bolt pattern, the 351M has that.
the 351C had the the 289,302 351W bolt pattern, as per ford.:
One other thing to keep in mind is bell housing bolt patterns. The 289 (starting in 1965), 302, 351-W and 351-C all use the "small block" 6-bolt bell housing pattern. The 400, 351M/400, 390, 427, 428 and 429 all use the "big block" bell housing, which are heavier, more difficult to find and more expensive than the "small block" size.

i should have gone back and updated the other posts...the dealer threw a 460 starter in there..their mistake..

once i pulled tthe casting number i was able to find out what starter i needed...i had tried a 351w starter and still had the same problem, along with a 460 starter.. i finally got smart and pulled the number lol...and we researched it and found that it is in fact a 351c..once i replaced it with the correct starter and flexplate i have had zero issues..

sory for the confusion.

If your talking about the engine in the original post in this thread I will bet you any amount of money you have that what is in your truck is NOT a cleveland.

X2

Thermostat housing and tinny heads are a dead giveaway. Along with headers.
This is a C. Or a M. Same difference. Plus the headers on a C/M the bolts are not strait across from each other. They are at a angle like /

Well, a boss 302 engine has a standard-ish looking 302 block with cleveland heads and a completely unique intake...but I assure you thats not what your engine is.

also, your header bolt pattern is like this -- where as Cleveland heads are like this / - like Dave said.
