Question Oil Pressure Question

Hey folks! I have a couple of questions about my 1992 F150 w/ the 5.0. Recently my oil pressure gauge started acting funny in conjunction with my check engine light. The check engine light could have been coming on because of my fuel gauge not working quite right with the dual tanks. That I can live with, low oil pressure is a bigger problem. I've read that the oil pressure gauge is only a dressed up idiot light, but I am not totally sure. So if I really have a low pressure problem it would be really nice to tell what it is actually doing and if what I try helps any. I found this, "Dummy" Gauge, and was wondering if it will work on my truck. Has anyone tried this? I am not totally sure if I even have a problem. I put in heavier oil today, and the gauge is back in the normal range, but it would be nice to see what 'normal' actually is. So, enlighten me, please

Another small question-- If i got a digital oil pressure gauge, how high should the gauge go? In other words, what is the average oil pressure on a truck like mine?
Thanks in advance
