I know its been alot of post on how to change a fuel filter but I can't seem to find any of them on this knew site thing, (its been a while since I been on here). Anyway I bought a filter today and I wanna change it tomorrow afternoon so can anyone help me out on how to change it cause I have no idea on how to do it!
Take the plastic cover from in between banks ( on top of engine) off and the filter is right there. If you got the one with the new cap and filter attached, just remove the old cap and filter , clean out the reservoir and place your new setup in the can. The electric pump in the tank will refill the can, prior to starting the engine. Hang on to that old cap and gasket just in case you don't find the newer style out in the woods or some remote place. You will need it to replace filter again. Good luck.
As a rule , I always fill the fuel bowl up with Power Service fuel additive after every fuel filter change. I know allot of other Diesel owners do this as well. Best way to give the motor a straight shot of the stuff....
I changed my filter today but i couldn't get anything to come out of the drain pipe, i turned the lever but nothing would come out so i just put the filter in! any body else have that problem?
The drain valve will drain with the engine off, I do it every time I change my fuel filter. I'm with JoeBoost on putting the additive in there, except I use Stanadyne. I drain the bowl, pull the old filter, put some diesel on the new rubber rings, and install the fresh filter. After that, I fill up the bowl with Stanadyne, close the cover and crank it down so it won't leak, and then fire the engine and go. Takes all of about 10 minutes.
The drain should work with the truck off. Was the truck on level ground when you opened the drain? I'm also with JoeBoost on the fuel additive thing, but I use Standyne lubricity formula.
I drain my fuel bowl every time I change my fuel filter or when my water in fuel light comes on but mine will not drain with the truck off. I've tried it but no go. Is there a reason for this? Another question that I have is where is the nipple located that I can put a piece of polyvinyl hose on so the fuel doesn't drain all over the lower engine?
I placed a piece of fuel line from the local parts sotre off the water seperator after i spent a hour cleaning diesel off my front suspension the first time i drained my fuelbowl.
If you crawl under the truck , on the passenger side , and look up, you will see a silver tube that goes to nothing. This is where you need to attach the hose to route the fuel away from the motor/suspension/etc....
P.S - I have always drained my fuel bowl with the engine off..
