Are TSBs just Ford's official recognition of a problem? My Explorer shifts a tad bit hard and there is a TSB on the problem but does that mean Ford will reprogram it if I take it in?
A TSB is a Technical Service Bulletin. It means that Ford has acknowledged a common issue and has issued the TSB to tell the dealership how to address the situation. Whether or not the dealer will do anything about the issue depends on what the TSB says. Some will have them do something, but most just suggest a solution (at your cost). The only way you will know is to get the TSB or to call the stealership and ask.

Reason: Poor Typesmanship
If there is mention of "customer satisfaction" in the TSB letter to the dealer, you have a chance of getting the OEM to subsidize your bill. Vary rarely will you find a service writer that will voluntarily offer you the path to Ford's checkbook. best approach is research, gather knowledge, and go in knowing Ford has paid for the issue you desire to get fixed. it is also benficial to find a service writer that knows the options at hand.
