Help E350 7.5L Issues
OMG do I need help! Bought a 94 E350 7.5L RV. I'll tell you the problem first and then tell what I have done so far.
Runs rough, like a dead miss in a cylinder, maybe even more than one. Hardly no power. Truck smooths out on hard acceleration only. Idles pretty good. Since this is a heavy RV any small issue is probably amplified. I'm pretty mechanical and just trying to avoid the shop charges...
Changed dist cap/rotor, plugs, wires, fuel filter, cleaned injectors and combustion chamber. 32 fuel pressure running.
After many tries i finally got it give me a code: 212 on engine off check. Engine on check fine. It was in the memory so not sure if its valid or old. So, heres where I'm stumped: The 212 code says a fault with the SPOUT circuit or maybe a problem with the ICM. I dont see any issue with the SPOUT so I move on and want to just replace the ICM. However theres lots of debate concerning the gray or black ICM. All parts books call for a gray one on 94 E350. I have a gray one now but it appears to have been changed because it is an aftermarket unit made in Taiwan. Could someone have put the wrong one in?
So, I tried to do as told and determine which one I need by tracing the wires but no such luck.
Anyone think I am chasing my tail here or should I just buy a new gray ICM and give it a try? I'm trying to avoid continued guess work because nothing is working for me... Do we think the ICM is the culprit? It does control timing and it really feels like the timing is not advancing. HELP PLEASE. Thanks in advance..

A 1994 takes a Black ICM, someone put the wrong one in.
Just go to a parts store and ask for an ICM for a 1995 5.0L Mustang.
The you will get the right one, all of the parts books are wrong including the ones at the Ford Dealer.
All Ford Truck and vans from 1994 and newer take the Black one.
Also make sure you do not have a plug wire off or shorting as I have had the same problem after changing plugs and wires.
