i sent you a visitor message or whatever it's called , norm has them still just gotta locate them in his storage lot , said 100 bucks for one if your interested . the 3 speed i got is laying under my bench , don't have a clue bout value , but i like to trade things too . so give norm a couple of days and i should hear again from him , and or if you want the light duty 3 speed we can figure that one out too . i gotta renew my membership as all these ad's are distracting me ..............
If the t98 is 53 or newer it will not work because those transmissions have no rear mount. In 53 they went to bellhousing mount. Now if you were to find one of those rare 52 and older t98s it will bolt right up, but you will run into drive shaft length issues because the t98 is longer. What you really need (for simplicities sake) is a regular 52 and older 3 speed floor shift. I know the mounts between the 4 speed and 3 speed are different because of crossmembers, but take the mount off of the 4 speed and put it on the three speed. It will bolt right up.
thanks 52 f1. i have a line on a 3 speed floor shift in a 50 f1 with a flathead six. i havent made all the measurements to see if it would fit. my goal is to end up with an f1 with an 8 foot bed. so far so good the transmission is the only part left to complete then its paint and seat cover.
they're out of a 55 f350 and a 56 f600 i had around here so there is no rear mount . you'd have too make a horseshoe shaped one like i'm gonna do as i dont like that beast hanging by 4 bolts off the bellhousing . so if you are still interested great , if not no biggie . my old 49 f4 is residing down the road from you in stonington working on a farm again . i thought he was going to replace the tranny in it with a newer od unit , but i'm not sure , and i'm also not sure now if it was a synchro 4 gear or not . i'll try and raise him and see .
hey 52 f1 a couple of questions. so the three speed will bolt right up to my 215 even though its now behind a flathead six? do i use my bellhousing and clutch and bolt it to the 3 speed case? also when i remove the old spur gear trans, do i unbolt at the engine block or the "clutch ring". i have decided to remove the transmission and take it with me when i find another to compare side by side.
hey 55, let me know about the 49 4 speed. it it isnt a spur gear i would be interested. in regards to the other transmissions i will probably drive up and look at them (if they are syncro) and bring mine for comparison. you have my number thanks
hey 55, i removed my transmission today and put it in my s10. that way i can bring it along and compare. if that three speed you have is a floor shift and doesnt look too bad we can make a deal on that.
my light duty 3 speed also is a 53-55 truck transmission so no rear mount , was a column shift but had been converted too a floor shift by the p.o and i'll be dained if i remember who but someone here ended up with the fenton floor shifter off it . i have a good , and i mean perfect long tailshaft car 3 speed with a rear mount but i'm kinda hording it for the 52 in case i need it . the t98's are a non synchro first gear , but 2nd through 4th are synchro . the 49 trans in question is a non-synchro and he hasnt pulled it out yet { he's a farmer and a wee bit busy } to start trying to swap the np 4500 into it . kinda waiting to see if he accomplishes that as my old 49 was a flathead v8 also and if he gets it done it could be quite useful info too those of us wanting a stouter trans for ours . i wil give you a call as soon as i hear from norm . he's been cleaning out his lot of the scrap { including a 67 toronado } and hauling it off so we shall see if he still has them . like i said he says he does . by the way my name is kevin so if you get a strange call { 217-691-3014 } it will be me .
I have a spur gear case from one I gutted a few years back if you want it. It is yours if you pay shipping. (It should not be too much depending on where you are located)

All those transmissions were the same. Flathead 6 OHV 6 Flathead 8 will all interchange without messing with the bellhousing. The input shafts are even the same size and spline count.
