Unhappy e40d's cant swim

well, i really done it this time i went off roading and sunk my front end in 3 feet of water. well i got it started and drove home, approx-40 miles. today i drained the transmission,it was a mess pink milky fluid every were. put the filter in new gasket and now my transmission wont shift past second- it goes all the way to 60 mph. and when i was backing up the inspection plate started gushing fluid is their any way to save my transmission. without spending 2000 dollars or further more is it worth it (my vehicle is a 1996 bronco 5.8 351w with a 191xxx on it. i already know how stupid i am and my old man already tanned my *** so please just lend me a hand i have already heard enuf bs for one day.

thanks

Just how much new fluid did you put in to replace the old one? are you sure it was enough? also, i would have flushed at least twice, to make sure all the water got out of the tranny.

might be a dumb question but did you also drain the converter? i agree with Encho with doing it twice.

your whole tranny system needs flushed. You should also drain your diffs also.

if he start gushing fluid didn't he break the front seal? I dont see how changing fluid is going to help that.

Tranny fluid is expensive, especially when you're just gonna dump it out of your tranny when you fill it up...

Same thing happened with mine. I purposly drove through water up to my front bumper. Was a ton of fun. I was having the tranny rebuilt a week later. With the fluid coming out the front, I agree that the front seal is toast.

That seal itself is about a 10-15 dollar part. It would still require removing the transmission. You would have to pull the tranny far enough away from the enging to work in side the bell housing to change the seal. Thats a good amount of work. The bad thing is that even if you change that seal, theres no telling if anything inside is still damaged.

So the cheap, super labor intensive option could be to pull the tranny, change the seal, drain the coverter and rest of tranny fluid, install everything back and refill. You might be good to go, might not be.

When I priced my tranny the shops ranged from 1800-2500 and that was about 6yrs ago.
