Won't start after degreasing

81, 302, aod. Smelled the oil burning on the exhaust manifold so I tightened all the valve cover bolts and cleaned the motor. Now it won't fire. Spins over OK. Let it dry out for several hours with a fan on it too.

Dry out the inside of the distributor (remove the cap).

I did that, even left it open for several hours with a trouble light shining in, then got my portable air tank and blew air in it. When I opened the cap, it looked completely dry. I did notice that I need to replace the cap and button but that shouldn't keep it from starting. Is there a way to test the module?

Make sure the coil is clean and dry, it could be grounding out. The only way to really test the module is to pull it and take it to a parts store that has a tester.

Archion, thanks, that was it. New module installed. Took my dremel and wire wheeled the rotor and dist. cap contacts. On the road again.
