i have a 2004 ford excursion with 6.0l turbo diesel engine. have driven 197,000 miles and faithfully had maintenance performed on it , at the delaership only. started misfiring, informed that i needed new car: head gaskets blown, egr failure, radiator leaking, fuel pump failure. I drove the car to the dealership. now they tell me either get new car or repair bill apporx $15,000. Help, need advice. can i buy a replacement engine, rebuilt, engine, radiator, eetc. Love this truck, rather keep 'problems' i know than buy problem i don't know.
not to be stupid, this is the first time i have join, blogged, etc.. for anything. so navigating this web is little difficult, but i really appreciate the help

You can buy completey rebuilt (ARP Studs, EGR delete kits, Remaned injectors etc) for like $6,000. That being said, a competent shop, and a call too Bullet Proof diesel can get you a whole top end kit, for 2,000$ and 2,000$ too pay labor.

Maybe a moderator could send you to the 6.0 forum!
Most will say stay away from him. He is probably way better than my local dealership mechanic though! Bill has some good thoughts, and seems too talk a big game. I have never dealt with the man, and will not bad mouth him too much, as he helps alot of ppl apparently!

If the bottom end of the motor is ok, just get it repaired! The HG gaskets, head studs, EGR cooler and a new oil cooler, and your other repairs will run you around $4500-$6500. Where are you located? Find a Diesel mechanic other than a dealer, they're are some good one's out there that may be more helpful and honest about your options!
What they're really trying to do is get you to unload the Excursion, and they'll do you the "favor" of taking it off your hands while selling you a new vehicle. Then about 3 weeks later, you'll drive past that same dealership with your former Ex sitting out front with a pricetag on it after they put 1/3 that money in to fixing it.
They're looking to rape your wallet on both ends is what I'm saying. Run away, quickly.
If you tell us where you're located, someone on this forum may know of a good mechanic that will take care of you. That's how we do things around here.
Howdy Bill, sorry to hear about your truck, but the good news is that it's fixable and we can definitely help!
As some of the others have mentioned, these trucks are rare and the best of their breed. If they can "help" you by letting you trade it in on something else, they stand to make a handsome profit while you end up missing your truck. Believe me, I've seen it...
I'll move this down to the 6.0 forum and leave you in the capable hands of Maximum4x4 and the rest of the boys down there, Good luck!
