i have rebuild this engine 7.3 but when start the smoke is likew raw diesel the IP is new injetor new but the compression is in the 500 what can cause this issue
So, while it's idling, there's dark grey/black smoke coming out the exhaust. Is the smoke in bursts, or is it all the time? Is it always the same color of grey, or does the grey lighten up?
Is the idle steady? Or is it rough?
Is there any change in the idle or in the smoke color when the truck warms up?
OK, since diesels use the amount of fuel to determine how fast they run, it's real difficult for a diesel to run 'rich' - they simply run faster. If your IP were accidentally over fueling all cylinders at idle, the idle speed would be faster than spec'd.
Have you tried isolating each injector to see which specific cylinders are involved? With the engine idling, loosen the line fitting at the top of the injector. Don't completely remove the fitting. As the fitting comes loose, fuel will start to spray out of the top and the idle will change. You've just cut off the fuel to the cylinder, killing it.
Here's what you're looking for: Killing a cylinder eliminates the smoke or makes most of it go away.
If you find that only a few cylinders are actually making the smoke, then you have either a few bad injectors, or you have a bad pump.
Keep me posted. Too bad you don't live near Tyler, Tx!
High compression is good on a diesel. That will not cause smoke in any way I can see. Remember, diesels are compression ignition. So the fuel air mixture has to be compressed until it heats up enough to ignite.
Can you describe how you timed it? These can be finicky engines to time, and if the timing is off it will certainly smoke. Also, what is the air filter setup like? White smoke = unburnt diesel, grey to black smoke = incompletely burnt diesel (not enough air to cleanly burn the fuel).
injector and IP are new and bench teated all are good the air filter is the one with banks turbo set up we set up the timing using the adortor in injector # one and the timing -13 TDC
