I have 134k on a 5.4 2007. I recently moved to Georgia from the Sierras in Nevada. Now, top gear will not downshift appropriately. I can cruise at 45mph at 1100 rpm. The truck begins to chug like a manual with low rpm. Better fuel seems to help a bit, but not a cure. I suspect the difference is in the altitude. Is there a way to verify, change this problem and make it downshift when needed?

Have the tourque converter in your transmission checked.

try re-setting the computer by taking the ground off the battery for 15 mins.
