Found posts on leaks at the engine and tanks, but I have a leak that seems to be coming from the driver side frame rail at the back of the truck, just above the rear axle.
It happened this morning, haven't started the truck since January/February and moved it down the drive way. When I backed it up I saw some diesel on the ground. Took a look under and the pictures show what I saw.
Both tanks have about 1/4 diesel, probably more since my float isn't always right. What do I do, how do I do it? Havent performed anything major on my truck, tempted just to call someone and have it towed to a mechanic.
Probably a cracked/broken fuel line. There are some rubber hoses in the system, once the fuel stops dripping I'd stick my head up there and have a peek. My guess is one of the rubber hoses is the problem.
it looks like you have dual tanks...there is a selector valve right where you are describing. this is where chase could be on to something. that whole duhickey is plastic with rubber lines changing over to steel. could be a chafed rubber line or maybe a strap on the rear tank has rubbed the tank itself. try to wipe off as much as you can down low so you can jack it up and stick your head up there. might also help to take your spare tire down for my lookin room.
those shops will charge you an arm and a leg so anything you can fix yourself will save you alot of coin. good luck let us know
thanks for the information. I have to go out of town for 2 days & was worried it wouldn't quit leaking, but it stopped.
I don't have a floor jack, will the factory jack get it up high enough for me to have room, or just high enough to clear the tire from the ground to be changed?
Not looking forward to this, I have the feeling everything I unscrew or loosen will either snap broke or rust broke...and then there's the spider living in there I have to contend with
Yup, could be a fuel line. I had one go out way back when. I remember I had to buy 2 pieces of line b/c the shortest one they had was a few feet too short. It wasn't that hard to fix. Where in SoMd are you? I work towards the south. If you are not that far, maybe I can give you hand?
