Hi grues,
Shouldn't take much to get that old beast running. These old trucks are dirt simple to work on, compared to today's vehicles (least ways, in my opinion
).First thing I would do is make a quick check of the wiring. Under the hood, behind the dash, and back to the taillights. Make sure mice haven't got into it and chewed things up. Fix it if they have.
After sitting for 12 years, you will need to check the fuel system out. If any gas has been in the tank and carburetor for that amount of time, it will be fairly "skunky" to say the least. Check and clean the fuel tank(s) if necessary. Rebuild the carburetor too, while you're at it. It will undoubtedly need it. Then put some fresh gas in it.
That's about it, really. Check the oil and coolant, and top off if need be. Put a good battery in it, and assuming everything else was OK the last time it ran, it should start right up. And if the brakes and tires are up to snuff, you could probably take it out for a test drive. Maybe even take grandpa along, if he's up to it
.Paul.

Is there even a 70-72 F800 f850? I know the L series are often called F trucks, but that was not what I was talking about .The slick side trucks ended production in 69.
I know this is not a "fresh" posting but hey the fact I found it might be of use to someone out there in Ford Big Truck land. lol.
