Finally!

About 5ish years ago or so, when I lived in the lower mainland, i had purchased a Miller plasma cutter. I bought it for cheap and never did use it, or even hook it up. Well this past weekend I finally got around to hooking it up,and it works fantastically.

Ive used plasma's before and its nice to have one hooked up again!

It goes along very nicely with the new miller 211 welder that the ol lady bought for me last week.

I actually did purchase it just for getting into body work, but I can see its gonna be handy for alot of things!

I think the supposed maximum for my machine is 3/8, and I was doing 1.4 inch like nothing yesterday! Sure have to get used to keeping the hands really steady though haha!

What kind is yours Morris? What kind of capacities?

The welder was long overdue as well, it works like a charm, and I got a spoolgun and a bottle of argon with it so i can fab some stuff out of aluminum!

Mine cuts 3/16 and shears 1/4, for most stuff I use my cut off saw and for heavier material my hot wrench.
I`ve never really had the need for aluminum welding.

What do ya mean cuts and shears...? I dont have a use for aluminum weldeing either, but since I get free stuff from work, I figure I might as well start making stuff from aluminum!

I gotta admit I dont know what a hot wrench is.. or is thats whats referred to as a torch? haha.

Cut off saw is coming up on my list for sure as well!

A plasma will cleanly cut up to a certain thickness and over that it`s not as clean so it`s called shearing.
Yep, a hot wrench is a oxy/acetylene torch set.
For quick and fairly accurate cuts a cutoff saw is hard to beat and it`s alot quicker than lugging out the torch or plasma.

Ah i getcha about the cutting/shearing.

Bad thing about cutoff saws is you can only do straight cuts. I like to tinker with fancier stuff which a cutoff saw is useless.

A guy really needs all of them if your into metal fabbing!

What brand of plasma do you have Morris?

I've always wanted to have a welder and plasma cutter. I definitely will be setting one up in my next shop. Never used a plasma cutter, but I'm sure it would be a blast.

Sherm, for some things, a plasma is unbeatable! They are so slick, and you can cut such fine intricate lines.

Trouble dave, me? never :

I really want to get myself a really good MIG welder so I can do my own fabbing as well. I've wanted one for so long, but just never find the time to buy one... I'm sure I'd be using it like it was going out of style if I had one though.

Plasma cutter? Never really had a use for one yet, just cause I'm old fashioned I guess haha. If I did own one, I'm sure it'd save me at least 2 hours on each project haha, they sound pretty good.

Guess I gotta save up my pennies and get myself a mig and plasma. I keep seeing them on kijiji or usedregina, but... school comes first . I hate saving my money... lol
