1992 E4od

OK This site is great, I have used you guys in the past for questions, and I sure this question has been asked a time or two, but with the lack of time i have and the amount of forums on here, I am not able to surf through all of them, Now onto my problem, I have a 1992 Ford F250 4x4, 460 motor and a blown up e4od tranny. I can not find a used tranny anywhere for a decent price, and yes price is a issue right now, in the long run I will rebuild my tranny, and beef it up, but for the time being, I need a tranny yesterday. I found a 1994 f250 in the local yard today, has a 460 with a e4od, now I have read in a number of places that I can only use a e4od from a 92 or a 93 with a 7.5l motor. My question is would it be possible to use the one out of the 94, and if so what parts would I need from the donor truck? This truck only has 90k on mileage, and the guy told me that the tranny had just been flushed and filter changed about 3 months before it was hit in the front end. Any information you could provide me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance Bo

A 94 should work but you would need to plug the VSS hole. The plug for the solenoid pack should be the same as I think they changed that in 1995.
If it is not out of a 4X4 the tail shaft may be different and of course the extension housing would different.

Luckily it is a 4 wheel drive.. I did find several 2 wheel drive tranny's. but having to take the tailcone off would require just as much work as doing a rebuild... so decided against that avenue... thanks

Disregard what I said about the VSS hole.
A 1992 & 1994 both have the VSS on the rear end.

ok thanks. I know there has to be some differences someplace because all of the transmission sites tell me that a 92 and a 93 are the only years that this truck can use... There has to be something inside that makes it different, but I am at the point where the truck has been sitting for 4 months now, and I need it back on the road. I do not need a driveway ornament especially when I just put a brand new long block in it last year from Ford...

There are internal differences between the 92/93 and later transmissions but that does not prevent you from using a later or earlier model for your truck. The later model versions have various service upgrades therefore they are more desirable.

That is exactly what I was hoping to hear. I figured that was the case, but without knowing for sure, it was not a gamble I was willing to take. Thanks I will go buy it on Tuesday...
