Hard Starting 460

We just bought a 1986 Ford E Van with a 460 for my wife's daycare.
The 460 is one of the most obsinate engines I have ever seen.
According to the previous owners paperwork they did alot of work on the carb & fuel system.

We still have problems with starting. Most times it fires right up.
But then it will stall unless its allowed to warm up.
Then she drives to the park and spends 5 hours. Then goes to leave and it won't start then she spends 15-20 minutes trying to start it.

My question after all that. Is would the PCM be the cause. I have researched the problem online and I think it could be.
But I'm not into engine's.

Please ley me know or guide me.

Thanks,
Steve, Portland/Gresham Oregon

You can forget about the ECM, there isn't one for carb'ed 460's. What all has been done to the fuel system, exactly? If we know what's already been done, it might be easier to help.

Welcome to the forum Steve.

How many miles are on the van?
What is the GVW according to the sticker on the door jamb or on the valve cover?
When was the last tuneup?
Does it run & drive well once it is warmed up?
Any idea what kind of mileage it's getting?
Does her van have an electric fuel pump or a mechanical one?
