V10 Fuel filter replacement instructions
I also shipped my computer to Hawaii the other day so I do not have access to my CD manual.
Can someone please post coherent, simple instructions to change the fuel filter so that it will go smoothly for me? I got too much on my plate right now to be going off the cuff.
Thanks!
BTW, I got my truck back (after 45 days!!) and it looks awesome! I had them paint an XL bumper and grill to match the body color.
But when I got it home I saw the "puddle". Yup...the transfer case was cracked.
I have no idea how someone can miss that...
As for the fuel filter, it's easy.
Remove the retaining clips on the fuel lines
Wrap the "tool" around the fuel line and press it away from the filter and into the line connector. You may need to pull on the fuel line at the same time as you insert the tool into the connector. Depending on grit, grime and "corrosion", it may take some effort to get the line disconnected.
When the line comes loose, some fuel will run out. I've changed about 5 filters in my lifetime and have never "depressurized" the system before hand. Just let the vehicle sit for a few hours before doing the change. If you don't depressurize, then you may want to get some container to catch the small amount of gas that flows out. Most of the fuel comes out of the filter itself.
The filter is held onto the frame with a hose-type clamp. You'll need a screwdriver/nutdriver to loosen the clamp and slide the filter out.
The absolute worst time I ever had getting a filter changed was on an Expedition with 150,000+ miles. It had never been changed. That replacement took me about 30 minutes total.
