I have the Premiun Package Stereo with the CD Changer in my 02' XLT. This one comes standard w/ 4 speakers. I would like to add a couple of more speakers. The Mach system comes w/ 7 speakers. My questions are:
- Anybody knows the location of the additional 3 speakers?
- Are these locations pre-wired?
- Is there an Amp. in the truck/Location.
My system is the radio/tape w/clock and CD changer.
The answer to the question "where are the other 2 speakers" is as follows. Ford and others consider a "2-way speaker" meaning it has a separate tweeter and woofer to be 2 completely separate speakers even though they are built into one component. Yep, you got it, a pair of 2-way speakers in the standard 5x8 door mounts qualify as 4 speakers. So, what you find is that there are 2 ways in the doors (4 actual speakers) full range speakers in the rear doors, and a sub. That's 7 total speakers. To me, it's a little misleading, but then again, I wouldn't buy the "premiums systems" as they just aren't up to aftermarket quality that is out there for little more or even less money. I have done some very good installs on expy's so if anyone has a question, post it here & I'll try to answer. (An example would be of a single 10" sub that pushed 125db and was totally stealth)
I have an '03 XLT. Is the radio opening considered double din? And if it is, will two standard din size chassis fit into it? Some day I may install a DVD & nav system, some of them need two din components.
Hmm, good question. I've only had my 03 for about 5 days, so I will have to research that one a little. My gut tells me that while the opening may be a "double din", the space behind the dash might be the limiting factor in installing multiple components as you will most likely need a mounting bracket for each component, especially if you are installing a DVD as you mentioned (although I'm not sure why you would put it in the dash). I will try to look at mine and see what I can determine.
Thanks. One DIN chasis has the pop-out LCD screen and the CD player. The other is the DVD navigation unit which can also play DVD movies when not using the nav dvd.
I did look at my dashplate a little and it does qualify as a "double din", but I would be very suprised if 2 components would fit in the same space. Also, something to think about--you mentioned a dvd player in the dash. In many states, (not sure of exactly which) it is illegal for any type of enterntainment media player to be active where the driver can see the screen. I assume this is for safety reasons. If it were me, I'd look at one of the aftermarket rear systems for video or none at all as they are HUGE targets for break-ins
The display would primarily be used for the nav system, which is legal everywhere. I think the DVD player is legal because when installed correctly movies will not play unless vehicle is in PARK. The player has a wire that connects to transmission selector, but you can rig a bypass switch under the dash to allow it. I would not watch a movie while driving around town, but on long trips DVD music videos would be nice.
