howdy everyone
i got a question. i have a 1973 ford f250 highboy 2wd and it has a 460 in it and was wondering is that the motor that comes stalk in it? if not what size motor comes stalk in it?

one of the digits of the vin number tells what engine was installed at the factory.
I can't remember which one it is.
LMC truck catalogs has a little section that will decode the vin as far as the engine.

The only V8 factory installed in 1968/76 F100/250 4WD's was the 360 2V.
The engine code is the 4th digit of the VIN.
1968/74 F100/250 4WD available engines: A = 240 1V I-6 / B = 300 1V I-6 / Y = 360 2V.
1975/76 F100/250 4WD available engines: B = 300 1V I-6 / Y = 360 2V.
1977/79 F100/250 4WD & 1979 F350 4WD available engines: B = 300 1V I-6 / H = 351M 2V / S = 400 2V.
390's were not installed in 4WD's, and there were no 460 4WD's available until 1983, and then only in F350's. Ditto a manual transmission, all 1968/82 460's were only available with C6's.
(sigh) LMC's VIN decoders aren't worth two cents, have a gazillion errors and omissions. If you want your VIN, all the codes found on the Warranty Plate decoded properly, post them here.
