The 87 is more rounded and smooth, while the 86 tail light is more sharp edged, and has raised lines in it. I can try to get comparison pics if you like.
Are the screw holes te same? The reason I am asking I'm looking at getting a set of aftermarket euro style led tailights and the ones I like say they are only for 87-96
A couple of weeks or so ago there was a discussion on here about tailgates. If I recall correctly, there was a fellow who had put the newer style taillights on a 1980-86 era F150. You might try checking that thread--I think they matched up OK and looked pretty good. However, I can't swear to them being a perfect match, but I think they were.
A guy that's put the later lights on the 80--86 trucks is Rogue_Wulff, and he's discussed it in a thread. Either search for that thread or send him a PM.
Tell him I said his "pumpkin" is ready for picking. He'll know who sent you.
No worries Gary, he founded me just fine.
Yes, they will bolt in perfectly, and barely protrude where the middle flat is on the bed corner. I used OEM style tail lights for 92-96, as they were all that were available locally when one of mine got broke. The brightness factor of these is enough to make me happy to overlook the minor mis-match at the corner. Same bulbs for both the tail/brake lights and reverse lights, yet they put out more than twice the light that the old lenses allowed to pass thru.
