Question 2005 Injector Stuck Open

Well I believe I finally had the opportunity to experience the wide open injector issue. I was driving to work and all of a sudden at a stop light my truck started shaking bad. It went away but as I took off every so often it would shake. I thought it was a tire or front end component so I pulled over and just got overwhelmed with the smell of gas. I drove 30 miles back home and check engine light blinked the whole way and truck ran like s**t. Also wasted at least a 1/4 tank of gas and the a/c wouldn't blow cold air either. Hooked it up to read DTC codes and got P0172, P0300, P0303, P0304, P0316 and P2196. Dealership told me it is under warranty if it is the injector so would everyone agree this is an injector issue or is there any other ideas? Thanks for any help. Taking it to the dealership in the morning.

Injectors for 2005 F-150 and other vehicles with 5.4 are covered for 120,000 miles. Mine was one of the them. Hopefully you didn't cook you catalytic converter.

I had to drive about 45-50 miles total from the first sign of trouble. I have heard that any component directly related to the injector failure should be covered as well. I will find out from the dealership today I suppose. Just hope they are straight forward and honest and don't try and pull one over on me. I am no trained mechanic but I know enough.

You'll probably need new cats (depending on which bank, etc) because of the amount of raw fuel being expelled.

I haven't got the truck back yet but they told me it was bank 3 and that the cat was fine. I asked them to check it. They also changed my oil. I will find out everything they did tomorrow.

Truck has been running fine so far. No other problems yet anyways. Went back to 91 octane if it even matters. Always used 91 and first tank of 87 and my injector stuck open. I am doing my plugs next. 94000 miles on truck so I am a little overdue.

I'd be willing to bet that your stuck injector had nothing to do with the octane level. Glad to hear the truck is running well!

Just a note to all. in retrospect if anybody has this happen to them...if at all possible take a oil sample and send it to Blackstone Labs with a explaination of conditions. Oil with that high of a gas concentration could be responsible for far more than bad cats. Also a lot of this damage may not show up untill later and then you are up the creek without a adequate means of propulsion! IMHO.

Its hasn't been long since I got my truck back and now my check engine light came on. It threw code P0420 Catalyst System Efficiency Threshold Bank 1. I would think this has something to do with the injector being stuck open. I'm going to call the dealership and let them know. Anyone who knows exactly what this code is please chime in. My guess is a sensor or catalytic converter now.

The cat is bad from the injector dumping the gas. Take it back and have them replace it.

Will do. I kind of expected this but the dealership told me they tested it and it was fine. Hopefully they do it right this time. Got better things to be doing then leaving my truck at the dealership.
