1997 Explorer 4.0 OHV Cam Sensor
Just had my engine completely rebuilt by a reputable machine shop. Since the rebuild, Gas mileage has plumeted and the Explorer has no power... To try and remedy the problem have done the following.
Removed fuel injectors, sent then off to be checked and cleaned... Found no fault with injectors.
New Spark Plugs.. Motorcraft
New Spark Plug Wires.
New Air Cleaner
New Catalytic Converter... the old one was not bad. Found out after the fact.
When the machine shop was finishing up the rebuild, the car wouldn't start because the Cam Position Sensor was 180 degrees out... So they had to remedy this.
My question, if the Cam Position Sensor (at the back of the engine) is not adjusted properly, would or could this cause my problem. The book says a special tool is necessary to adjust the sensor and after reading, looks to me that everything must be very precise.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
