A couple of days ago I received my new AE and am testing it out. Well my FICM is at 47.5. With the engine at operating temps on the road doing 60 my EOT is at 198.3 and ECT is 197.1. I think I need to replace my thermostat (running too hot). Either that or I have the closest delta's between the two.

Any comments on the temps. I will be testing it out on a longer run maybe 1/2 hour doing 70, to see what I get.

Thanks Mike for your great work.

First thing I think is to check the oil, coolant, transmission and both IAT and IAT2 after the truck has cold soaked overnight. They should all be pretty much the same. That'll eliminate any possibility of sensor error.

The next question is what was the outside temp when you were driving and getting ECT of 197. Unless it was really hot, then I think there is a cooling problem. My truck, just cruising at 65 or so, runs right about 190-192, unless it's really, really cold then it'll drop down to 188. If it's excessively hot (90-100) outside, it might run up to 194. But that's unusual.

I have always run 190-192, but here for the last month we really haven't had a day under 100 out side, and I noticed that my ECT has been running 195-205 driving down the road.

That sounds about right.

The outside temp was 73* when I made the run. I am on holidays next week so a flush is in order with a thermostat replacement. Then I'll run it again.

Temps like that are pretty rare here. And I just did my new thermostat last spring. So what he is seeing may be perfectly normal.

But the spread between is close. Is this normal? Or has my mechanic been very good to my truck? With the help of my coolant bypass of course!
